Good news. The "missing" handheld mysteriously reappeared in the area it "disappeared" from. Ain't it strange the effect of making a big fuss can have?
Theory: whoever had it must have discovered it was useless to them and/or realized that they might fall under suspicion, the dodgy bugger. Anyway, all good now. Stevo the Goose thanks everyone for the support
