COMING SOON: simple project
#1
Director Glasses11 Want to get into repeaters better with your Hand Held? If you have a handheld that has a detachable antenna, you're in business with a portable compact GAIN antenna with directional properties that you can build with simple materials. Having an antenna with Gain is like increasing your TX power......... NO Bs this works, I made one  :icon_geek:

Details to follow

[ Note to Admin Munky2 please can you make a "technical" page to move this to? Glasses9 ]

Shit yeah,   Also known as ERP (Effective Radiated Power) . e.g Formula for my base setup. Say 10-15watts from my radio into my yagi array of 18-20dBi gain = Actual tx Power multiplied and coming out of the yagi = Aprox 1,000 watts ERP.   Killing my brain cells  Read2

(This is approx figures not actual worked out exact figures).    :laughing4:

EMERGENCY ANTENNA from coax. This is for 2 metres, but the formula is the same, just put in 477 mhz instead. This gives you a vertical 1/2 wave dipole. Another good project to improve a handhelds' performance

Experience has shown that you need to start 'long' with the radiating element. using a swr meter trim for lowest swr. A piece of aluminium or copper tubing can be substituted for folding the braid back over itself. To do this just trim off most of the braid and attach a tail of twisted braid to the tubing like a Neighbour sleve balun. Book1
