no way it's coming from vic

it'll be someone rebroadcast it locally.

a fuckwit called frank is on the coast at the moment.

he used to drive around the coast and rebroadcast cb over the cop channels.

i had 5 turn up here all pissed off one night because of it.

maybe rat trap as well, but i doubt it.

and vic cops you say?

how could you hear anything when its all scrambled.

might be old recordings or being streamed from the internet.

yer I heard about ur mate frank last night but I really dont think its being rebroadcast..

sounds real and direct from a repeater with the tail and such.  Thumbsup

I have been hearing it on and off since this big antenna went up -
sounds like its scrambled but sounds more like when my grandpa was rolling the HF dial
up and down searching frequencies many years ago and when it was just off where it should be  Grandpa
(he never had a beard but was an all round great bloke who taught me a lot about radio waves etc)

I will try get a recording of it see what you reckon    Rocking2

i forgot to mention the 'scramble' sound (what I believe to be slightly off frequency)
comes in and out -  a proper scramble wouldnt work intermittently.

I think its cos my chinese radio doesnt quite stay locked on the frequency properly sometimes...
so im listening to something near 71 but not quite...  Dontknow

Bushy's Antenna Services was called out the secret repeater location yesterday
(cost him 2 stubbies due to the Sunday call-out fee)
We moved the receive antenna around directly under the transmit antenna
I was hoping this might make things a bit better but I think we made it worse  Crybaby2

There is only about 2.5m space between antennas now but I thought vertical stacking would help.

More experimenting (and more stubbies) required.....  Read2

Where it's at...

Aerial 1: 4db car vertical, mounted vertical,  4 meters (approx) thin coax, cheap uhf plastic mount on metal gutter mount, mounted on metal house gutter.

Aerial 2: 4db car vertical, mounted vertical, with 4 meters (approx) thin coax into 8 meters LMR400 (barrel connector joined) mounted on a cheap uhf plastic mount, on 7 meter alloy pole metal earthed-braced on metal gutter..

I'd separate the aerials by 10+ meters (I have plenty of coax) but I'm not sure that would even work with all that wave length 'n lobe stuff + dodgy variables with the dodgy components.

Did you check the swr on both aerials?

By the time it gets working  :vasfag: would have sent the fuzz over to rip it all down.

we are looking at raising the height of the transmit antenna by another 2.5m with another pole

didnt check swr - I realised the machine has N type connectors in and out
PL259 screws on but only a couple of threads - can still use it but could be not quite accurate
I tried to buy adaptors from jcar but they didnt have any
I have ordered on ebay from  Banned_commies land - will they arrive before I move ???

anyway I dont think bad swr will be a problem for the receive antenna -
surely the antenna used for transmit has been tested on its own ?
maybe it hasnt...    Dontknow

That post was by Yobo - he used to own and run the Briso VHQ07.

At least 6 vertical meters  Confusedeven: and that's 6 meters
with good aerials and coax with no joiners.

Either that or as the post is about, a diplexer (rx and tx from one aerial) that will do a 750kHz split, but as the post also points out, they aren't cheap or easy to come by second hand for 476mhz.

1. yet to do, both on the same LONGER pole and 4+ meters vertically apart
2. original config with RX on gutter, and TX on pole .. only worked 2km radius
3. window where the radios are.

Fresh thoughts after reading some other forums tonight...

1. extend the current two piece sloppy fit pole with an extra 3 or 4 meter middle section .. taking it from 7 meters to 10 or 11 meters.

2. fuck my thick coax off (thick into thin with joiners is shit)

3. as the site only has mobile antenna's and bases, de-solder both bases and run new RG58 coax for both the RX and TX. RG58 is only $1.45 a meter at Jaycar etc.

Total coax length depends on where the pole is mounted .. but 30 meters at $1.45 should be heaps to redo both the RX and TX with the pole mounted at the original location on the side of the building (fig 2) where the ground is 1m higher.

If the pole is long enough, then less coax will be needed and the pole could be mounted at the rear window (fig 3) where the radios are.

4. Gotta stack 'em ... pole already has a mount on top, but will need a bracket lower down for the RX antenna. I can do that.

Fresh full length same sized and same rated antenna coax, vertically stacked antennas, and shielded radios should work.

Coax is is easy and cheap. Lower base bracket is free.

Another alloy pole that will fit inside the current (2 inch?) outer, and outside the current inner (1-3/4 inch?) is the important part.

Gotta vertically stack 'em.  :russell:
