Calling all computer nerds
I don't know why (as I'm not a nerd, but then again I'm always near a computer) or how (either watch TV or put up with manchild Dimmock on CB),
but I just watched 11 episodes back to back (feeling tied) of this new nerd period drama called "Halt and Catch Fire" (HCF)
Stupid name, but I was drawn in from the first episode - so just in case real nerds haven't seen it yet.

(u got one of theses Chopper? - Cardiff Giant)
Show is based on getting this lump of crap worth fifty cents in scrap today, into production back in 1984
Funny shit watching dickheads get all mad and corrupt over this old tech gear that is in land fill now days.

Very interesting.
No I haven't seen that show, and no I don't have one of those old computers.
I do however have one of these
http://oldcomputers.net/osborne.html
Beautiful, runs MS DOS's precursor, CP/M.
Buggered if I can remember how to get the actual preview page up again. Brain fart.

Well, I have the cluttered desk, I guess that's a start!

I only just figured out Cardiff (and the Giant) is a fictional fricking computer company.

I watched episode 1 last night.
I like it.
I think its actually the story of Compaq who did exactly the same thing with the BIOS chip.

Im hooked, off to watch some more episodes.
Heres another series you might like, my son told me about it.

Later on in coming episodes to justify what Cardiff was doing to IBM, they make it sound as if IBM reverse engineered Compaq.
So many copy cats out there.
Today I was sent an anonymous email image of what the Cardiff Giant (used in that TV series) was supposedly copied from.
Apparently the DHP didn't sell very well, as it had a fixed BG screen. no Lotus 123 or MS-DOS, and was only marketed to homosexuals.
Trouble was back in 1984, homosexuals were still in the closet, so the DHP brand went out of business.
The email said the DHP founder moved to Australia and is now living a manchild existence selling Chinese junk.
