Yes cOOter mine is running from a 5v phone charger, they draw only 700mA max anyway. You need a powered USB hub for things like external HDD's etc. And yep, any wireless chipset that is supported by Linux should work. I have a few to try when I get a hub in the next day or 2.
I cant spare any of the 3 hubs on my desktop PC! 
I have mine plugged into my switch at the moment on twisted pair.
I also have a case on order as I don't like the poor little thing floating about on my desk when nasty things live and might short it out, besides the case was $7 free postage from Sydney!

So give me a good run down on this Raspberry Pi,s What they good for and what can you do with them? They look pretty cool but seriously wouldn't know what to do with one.. 
Wow, u can actually get a motorola 7-8" mini laptop type thing that the Raspberry Pi powers.. That would be cool, i would need it it in an all in 1 unit setup. Pretty sure you could make something Chopper like those units we saw a while back where it looks like a blackberry unit ?

What can you do with a micro computer that costs less than $50 and runs off only 5 volts?
They were originally created as an education tool. Folks use them for all sorts of things like regular PC, kiosks, controlling robots, web servers, remote network controllers, media centers, third world computer solutions, HDMI titty pornography players and on and on.
I'm going to visa mount one to my 12v monitor (the one on the beer fridge) and have it do the job that your old compaq is doing, but with far less energy consumption. I'll also try it in the car plugged into your old double din unit.
It' main lure is the cheap price. Sky's the limit.

Ah yeah very cool. You can get cases for them now with heatsinks. LOL I want one integrated into an all in one mobile solution (blackberry style) Gonna look around!!

Another advantage of the Pi.
Many tablets are 5v as well, but the OS is Google, and Google sucks dogs balls.
Pi's use open source Linux which means you don't have to pander to Brin and Page (Google founders) for full access to something you supposedly already own. Ya'll read the terms each time you put an 'app' in a Google Android? The one I was using of DaVo's drove me nutty with all the Google oversight.
DaVo, they aren't as small / slim as a Blackberry.
The below dude gives ideas on making them mobile, but I'd never waste one for fricking games like he does...

Another reason Raspberry Pi is cool. The NSA were just exposed fucking with peoples brand new computers before delivery.
Goes to show they cant hack everything remotely.

***Nerd Update***
Raspberry Pi Update #1
I picked up an el cheapo 4 port usb hub from K Mart tonight for $10, and you can externally power it as well as it has a power input socket, doesn't come with a wallwart but at $10 I don't care as I have oodles of wallwarts lying around.
Im using Sony PSU that came with my PSP.
Works ok, but back feeds the Pi which is not ideal.
So far Ive tried out a Billion branded USB WiFi dongle and it works fine, reports as a Realtek chipset. Easy to setup and get going, Raspbian saw it on boot.
Tomorrow Ill try out a Netgear and a D-Link one as well.

They are usually pretty good boards and reliable as well.
