Yer camera was from NSW. Bought SD card today and looking at the 5V battery pack available for about $20 on ebay with 2 usb outputs
How many amps do you reckon I will need to charge one of them up?  Solar chargable ??

Yeah stuff those cases without battery's. AA's range in price and aren't worth it.

Here's a 50000mAh battery bank like what I have, is larger with batteries in it for $23

If the camera is using 1 amp per hour, you want the charging source to be replacing that 1amp
PLUS a bit more in store for the night cycle when there's no charging.

Yet ya only have maybe 1amp at 5v with those 9 cells. My guess is that eventually the battery
will fall behind at night, but start again after an hour or so of sun the next day.

I'd still be looking for some old heavy metal box to chain mount to a tree or such,
putting two car batteries in series in it (24v) with a control charger
(I have one here you can have) and sticking your good large 24v panel up a tree, roof or post
with a couple of Jaycar 5v socket do-dars hanging off the 12v battery's.

Yer as long as it can start itself up again when the sun comes up should be ok. Dont really need surveillance at 4am if the battery lasts till then

If it all gets stolen, 2 car batteries are worth more than $23 for the power bank

It would be handy if you could read the actual current being drawn by the camera and the dongle.

I say this as the rated power draw printed on a lot of consumer gear is "worst case" and the actual draw can vary considerably from that.

It may even be less than half the printed draw and only spike when the thing is maxxed out and busy for example, so you may just have enough power after all.

Just a thought.

Those black battery banks have inbuilt dieloads, errr, diodes.
Import thing is to make sure the devices only get 5v dc.

I got the multimeter out today to measure the cameras draw, but
the only spare cam power cord I had to splice into was rooted.


Those black battery banks will charge while outputting at the same time.
Not sure what my camera is drawing yet, but my little solar cells do
about 150mAh (cloudy today so less) will end up loosing in the long run.
I'll leave it on for as long as possible.

Im not at the wreckers Cooter - I do get a few batteries but can always resell them for $25 or so.
I cant use old fucked batteries that cant be trusted to keep my system alive.

I reckon ur right 
Cooters cam says 2A but will run on just 1A. I wonder if it draws the full 2A if its moving and recording at the same time.

My camera has SD card and remote viewing photos, and the best feature is 2way voice comms so if I see someone I can yell at them remotely

Guess I will need to get a  for the computer - not sure how it works using the phone - uses phone mic?

Still laying in bed with a headache waiting for some folks to pick their   up.
(bubble is bone dry. an oily rag wont even start it today)

You'd be right 7, when turning the cam etc it would use more power.

My test failed with the 100mHa cells..lol, more going out than going in was bound to do that.
Took most of the day to charge the battery bank back up with a 500mHa wall charger.
