Sounds to me like your repeater has desense issues.
http://www.repeater-builder.com/antenna/...sting.html
Just realised that site has a load of wank on it, but in essence, desense works like this. Because the repeater is transmitting and receiving at the same time, albeit on 2 different frequencies, some of the TX power gets into the RX side. This causes the RX side to effectively become somewhat deaf.
A duplex filter, or more separation of TX and RX antennas should work.
Vertical stacking of antennas sometimes works ok too.

Well, I have the cluttered desk, I guess that's a start!

Thanks

that would seem to be where it's at, at the moment.
Like I was saying. aerials are now 5+ meters apart (one 2 meters higher than the other) but the radios are still within 2 foot of each other and probably still unshielded.
I told old mate to get a roll of alloy foil and try to spread them apart and shield them as much as possible...not sure what hes done today yet.
I'm not sure if old mate would go to the trouble of getting a duplex filter.
Once :vasfag: finds out whats going on, he'll probably blab to the fuzz anyways.

Something like this might do the job.
Price is right too, although from time to time I see them at hamfests cheaper.

yep
sounds like its mildly scrambled usually - I think it must me slightly off 71 frequency
this is the first time I was able to hear it clearly
I thought it must have been a 41/71 repeater somewhere
but could hear repeater tails on 71 it would be all backwards

then I heard em with cop call signs and licence checks with addresses and other personal info....
Just like the old days
