It would only be the right thing to do refusing a liver transplant after
the abuse he would have given his old one from booze. (me speaking from experience)

I never knew much of him, or cared after hearing he mainly picked on other crooks.

A crook is a crook. I've done less yet I get treated like a fuckwit around Goodfellow etc.

To me he showed how desperate Australia is / was for local icons.
I miss Plucker Duck, Peter Brock, Steve Irwin and Ted Bullpit as well.

Every Aussie likes their rogues, like Ned Kelly for example, there is even a statue of that crook.

Icons like that are better than elevating moron football players to icon status and beyond into hero status.

Look how the Yanks see Bonny and Clyde or the Poms Ronald Biggs.

We are all crooks to some extent, some are just better at getting away with it, others better liars, some just truly evil, like Denis Ferguson and Ted Bundy.
