Those were REAL cars racing, not some spaceframed mock up.
Re: Bathurst 2016 - Thunderbird - 06-10-2016 Gees the lip sync is way out, I may have to re digitise that one. I used rather old and primitive equipment to extract that content. I used a Pioneer "Discovision" http://www.blamld.com/DiscoVision/Pioneer_PCM.htm And a PC TV card. I have rather better equipment now though. Time to hunt down that disc!
Re: Bathurst 2016 - Thunderbird - 06-10-2016 There is an interesting story behind that DiscoVision player and the disc, they were used by GMH as promotional material from 1979 in the dealerships. Mine comes from Lockhart Holden. I also have the dealership computer that dates from the same era. The bit labelled the 1970s on this page http://www.pentanasolutions.com/company/view/history A marvellous thing called a "Dyatron" It was made by Data General, and looks like this http://www.smythretail.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/DG10_1.jpg Beautiful. I NEARLY scored the old ICL mainframe from a certain Council many years ago, they were going to PAY ME to take it away. But then I was reminded that it was HUGE and where was I going to house it? Damn, it had several large tape drives like those in many old sci fi movies...
Re: Bathurst 2016 - Thunderbird - 06-10-2016 I do however have a Honeywell Mainframe computer. Its the size of a smallish fridge lying down. Its cool and has a key to start it, it takes about 15 minutes to boot and runs some weird arsed OS called GCOS. Might have to dig it out and fire the old girl up me thinks. Its a Honeywell Bull DPS6-40 similar to this http://www.ricomputermuseum.org/Home/equipment/honeywell-dps-6 I suspect I may be a nerd...
Re: Bathurst 2016 - cOOter - 06-10-2016 LOL, fark a lap down and still Brock came back Poor Dick swiping that truck..lol Yes the old days before the left PC brigade came out, and when tobacco companies were allowed to sponsor cars and drivers. Fortunately the cameramen are still the same zooming in on nice butts and cleavage. Glad they aren't all wearing burkas. Darn radios cutting out, and lap sign boards...compared to todays communications tech is funny. That old dealers promo video CD might be worth somemoney soon now Holden have jumped ship. The old man bought a good nick gold VH SL Commodore 6 months ago for $4,000. He's betting the price will increase in the next 10 years. I reckon he missed his old perfect nick gold SLX he had and later sold to me. Poor old things at the scrap yard now. even: would be up on the hill tonight pissedas a fart having a good time. Yer not missing anything back home, even:![]() Re: Bathurst 2016 - Thunderbird - 06-10-2016 Sadly the original DiscoVision disc is suffering from advanced "laser rot" Bugger, because I reckon you are right, it'd be worth a bit as its rather rare. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disc_rot I also reckon that your dad is right, a good nick VH commodore would be worth keeping in the shed, you only have to look at the price any old Holden or Ford or Chrysler brings these days as long as its in good nick and preferably original. I went looking for a bog standard XB Falcon, even a 4 door, and the prices! Funny thing is I bought a nice metallic green XA 4 door at the council auction many moons ago for $50, I drove it around in the scrub behind the old Southport drive in and bush bashed it good and proper. One day a bloke stopped and offered me $300 for it, so of course I sold it. Damn thing had upgraded suspension, extractors and all sorts on it too. Damn, now I'm missing my XC Coupe again... ![]()
