Yeah LED is a way better tech, low voltages for a start. Not like those crappy plasmas, gees who'd own one of those, they are just a glorified bar heater!

You wouldn't forking believe it.
Latest reports from the testing station -- the Samsung went off today after being on for 2 hours without issue.
It switched back on OK, but had a slight flicker again that decreased over the following 10 minutes.
I think this thing is possessed by a past capacitor still haunting the bloody poor old thing.
Ow well.
update: the new jaycar capacitors were crap. I found some original Samsung and all was good again.

Flickering usually means a bad tube, or a bad and arcing connection to a tube. Bad tubes often get blackened ends just like the flouros in houses and go a a bit "reddish" in colour output. The inverter feedback circuit monitors the current draw of the tubes, whci goes up when they get tired, or there is arcing. Good luck with it, I think its haunted myself .
