PROJECT: RECYCLING LAPTOP BATTERIES TO PICK UP HOT CHICKS


Ya gots an old laptop battery laying around ya think is rooted?
Grab a flat blade screw driver and pull that bugger apart.

Why? Big bouncy chicks!  



Seriously, here's why - inside are smaller batteries!

The battery pack I pulled apart has 8 of these. (6 shown)

Part# LGR18650U which are lithium ion.

Jaycar sell the same item for $19.95 each.

They're rated at 2200mAh @ 3.7 volts per piece.

But aren't they going to be rooted?

Think about the chilcks  

Laptop battery packs stop being useful for a number of reasons...

* Usually if one battery goes bad, it will effect the whole lot.
* Inbuilt overcharge and under charge protection circuitry can also cause problems.
* Chicks owned them.  



Best way to test each battery is to try charging them.
Here I'm using a very manly 4v 300mAh power supply for the test.



Took a while, but these two batteries still connected in parallel (+ to + and - to - ) went from a devastatingly low 1.93v to 4.2v
in 8 hours (est) with that tinny 300mAh charger.

The second the max voltage hit 4.2v the charge leads come off.

Never charge 3.7v batteries over 4.2v Mr Google.com told me.

OK you greenie tree hugger cOOter, ya gots two saved batteries, now whats ya gonna do with 'em?

So, if my grade threeee education is right, I can use these two 3.7v batteries in series ( + to - ) to get 7.2v to 7.4v?

Bloody laptop batteries cost a shit ton too.
One thing to be careful of.
Those look suspiciously like lithium ion cells.
They can be very dangerous and spontaniously ignite
Dell and Sony had troubles with early versions of their battery packs bursting into flames in laptops, often on peoples laps!
They always have a little cicuit board attached to the pack the surprisingly has 1 or more microcontrollers on them specifically to manage the cells in the pack so as to not over OR undercharge them, both are dangerous.

Be carefull with those little buggers, they may be small but they hold a metric shit load of energy.
Charge them to 4.2 volts maximum as youve seen on the 'net, but be careful not to discharge them too low, I THINK its below 3 volts per cell. May have to google that shit.

These came from a Compaq laptop.

Same lithium ion cells I think. (I'll check tomorrow and post the part #)

They can go a bit lower than 3v ... down to 2.4v I think. I'll have ta google the part # again.

These twin fluro tubes wont light when the charge gets down low and the unit has an overcharged protection circuit installed.
